Daal Fry

This daal (legume dish) is usually eaten individually or as a supplemental dish. Tastes equally good  with hot naan (flat-bread) or boiled rice.


  1. Yellow mung daal 1 cup
  2. Channa daal 1cup
  3. Chopped onion 1 cup
  4. Tomatoes fine (chopped) 1 cup
  5. Garlic chopped 2 tsp.
  6. Ginger (chopped)  1 tsp.
  7. Green chillies (chopped) 1 tsp.
  8. Red chili powder 1 tsp.
  9. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp.
  10. Coriander powder 1 tsp.
  11. Cumin seeds 1 tsp.
  12. Salt to taste
Ingredients for baghar:
  1. Dried whole red chillies
  2. Cumin seeds 1tsp
  3. Garlic 2-3 cloves chopped
  4. Oil 1/2 cup
  5. Curry leaves few
  6. Coriander leaves finely chopped for garnishing
  1. Soak daal for 1/2 an hour .
  2. Wash and boil daal with onion , tomatoes, red chilli powder, ginger, garlic, green chillies, turmeric,salt and coriander powder.
  3. Add water as per the consistency required and the daal gets tender.
  4. Cook till the daal gets tender and thick.
  5. Now in a pan heat oil add dried red chillies, cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves.
  6. Fry till they gets brown.
  7. Pour on daal.
  8. Garnish with coriander.
  9. Serve with naan or boiled rice.
