Chickpeas Biryani


This dish is ideal for vegetarian biryani lovers. It is wholesome and nutritious and above all very tasty. Can be enjoyed with spicy yoghurt raita.

Ingredients:

  1. Chic peas  (soaked and boil) 1/2 kg.
  2. Onion 2 sliced
  3. Ginger 1tsp.
  4. Garlic 1tsp.
  5. Red chili powder 1 1/2 tsp.
  6. Coriander powder 1tsp.
  7. Turmeric 1/2 tsp.
  8. Salt 1 1/2 tsp.
  9. Tomatoes 3
  10. Green chillies 6
  11. Yogurt 2tbsp.
  12. Garam masala powder 1tsp.
  13. Cumin seeds 1tsp.
  14. Curry leaves few
  15. Oil 1/2 cup
  16. Yellow food colour a pinch
Ingredients for rice:
  1. Rice 1kg
  2. Salt according to taste
  3. Black pepper whole 10-12
  4. Black cardamom 3
  5. Cloves 8
  6. cinnamon 1/2 inch piece
  7. Black cumin 1/4 tsp
  8. White cumin 1/2 tsp

Method:

  • Boil the rice with salt and whole garam masala.
  • Drain the rice and spread them on the tray.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add onion and fry till turns golden brown.
  • Now add ginger garlic paste.
  • Fry for about 1 minutes.
  • Then add tomatoes,red chili powder,salt, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin seeds, garam masala powder and curry leaves.
  • Add 1/2 cup water also.
  • Cook till the tomatoes get soft, water dries up and it leaves the oil.
  • Now add chic peas.
  • Mix it.
  • Add yogurt and green chillies.
  • Cook over low flame for 5 min.
  • In a separate pan spread half boiled rice , pour the chickpeas masala on top then cover the chickpeas with rest of the rice.
  • Mix yellow colour in little water.
  • Put on the rice.
  • Heat 2tbsp oil drizzle on top.
  • Cover and put on dum for 15 minutes on low flame.
  • Serve hot with raita.
