Cholay Ki Tarkari (Chickpeas Curry)


  1. Chickpeas (cholay) 2 cups
  2. Baking powder 1/8 tsp.
  3. Red chilli powder 1 tsp.
  4. Salt 1 1/2 tsp.
  5. Turmeric 1/2 tsp.
  6. Onion seeds 1/2 tsp.
  7. Cumin seeds 1 tsp.
  8. Whole coriander 1/2 tsp.
  9. All spice powder ( garam masala powder) 1/2 tsp.
  10. Green chillies ( chopped) 2
  11. Oil 2 tbsp.


  • Take chickpeas in a bowl.
  • Put water and baking powder.
  • Soak them for 6-8 hours.
  • Wash, put fresh water and boil them with salt till tender.
  • Put red chilli powder, turmeric, whole coriander, cumin seeds, all spice powder, onion seeds, green chillies and oil.
  • Add water if required, a pinch of baking powder and cook on low heat for about 25-30 minutes.
  • Take out in a dish serve with poori, halwa, achar and aloo ki tarkari.
