Chicken Kadhi


Ingredients:

  1. Chicken 1 kg.
  2. Onions (chopped) 2
  3. Yogurt 1/2 kg.
  4. Red chilli powder 1 1/2 tsp.
  5. Turmeric 1/2 tsp.
  6. Whole coriander 1 tbsp.
  7. Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp.
  8. Poppy seeds 1 tbsp.
  9. Peanuts 2 tbsp.
  10. Cashew nuts 2 tbsp.
  11. Black peppercorns 6
  12. Cloves 4
  13. Salt 2 tsp.
  14. Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp.
  15. Saffron 5-6 threads
  16. Oil 4 tbsp.
  17. Red chilli whole 4-6
  18. Mustard seeds 1/8 tsp.
  19. Curry leaves few

Method:

  • Toast poppy seeds, peanuts, black pepper corns and cloves, each separately.
  • Grind them together.
  • Marinade the chicken with yogurt, saffron, ginger garlic paste, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric and grinded spices.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add onions and fry till light brown.
  • Put marinaded chicken to the pan.
  • Cook on high heat till it starts to boil.
  • Lower the heat, cover and cook for 25-30 minutes or until thick.
  • In a frying pan heat 1 tsp. oil.
  • Add whole red chilli, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  • Fry for few seconds.
  • Add it to the chicken.
  • Take out the chicken kadhi in a serving dish.
  • Serve with boiled rice or naan.
